How to find clips from ClipBin with the help of the search by metadata?
Posted by Oleh Muliarchuk on 20 December 2023 07:09

Consider the following scenario:

  1. The metadata field for a clip in a Roll is filled in, for example, with the word "interview".
  2. A ClipBin is created from the Roll using the "Publish a Roll" command, causing the metadata to be inherited from the original clip.
  3. When searching for the word "interview", only the clip from the original Roll is found.

Explanation of Behavior

When searching by metadata, the search does not find clips from ClipBin; only parent clips from Rolls are displayed in the results. This behavior is not a defect. Here’s why:

  • There is an entry in the metadata table for the master clip only.
  • In the user interface, it appears that the metadata is inherited and displayed for clips in ClipBin, but in reality, the database table for ClipBin clips remains empty.
  • Historically, only master clips had metadata, so the search functionality was designed accordingly.

How to Make Metadata Searchable

If you need the metadata to be searchable for clips in ClipBin, you can change the metadata value for the ClipBin clip. When the metadata is "corrected/changed", a new record is created in the database for the ClipBin clip.

After the metadata is updated, the search functionality will work correctly, and clips from ClipBin will appear in the search results.
